INSTRUCTIONS

INTRODUCTION

If we look for a definition of “blog”, for instance, in the Cambridge dictionary, it will read as follows: “a record of news, people’s opinions, photos, and videos about a particular subject that someone puts on the Internet and adds information, pictures, etc. to regularly”.

So, that’s what we are going to do in this project: to create our own blogs. But, the definition says that we need a “particular subject”. What is it going to be? As you have seen in the title, it has to be related to the United States of America, and particularly, to the history of the country. This way, we will learn not only about blogs, but also about the origins and development of this huge country while we practice our English. Doesn’t it sound great to you?

OBJECTIVES

The main goals of this project are that you:
  •  Discover new facts about USA history.
  • Take interest in cultural subjects and to show respect to different cultures.
  • Learn to create a blog and that you start exploring and moving around the different options of a blog.
  • Use technologies and practice searching on the Internet, learning to identify general and specific information in written text from reliable sources.
  • Be willing to collaborate with your partners and share your opinion respectfully while accepting your partners’ opinion and help.

At the end, it is important that you will be able to answer these questions:
  •       What do I know about the USA history?
  •          What is a blog?
  •          Why do people create blogs?
  •          Why is it useful for you to learn how to make blog?
  •      Do I have any difficulties with grammar?
  •      What do I need to revise? Do I need help?

PROCESS

ORGANIZE GROUPS
This time you can work in pairs or small groups. Organize yourselves and let the teacher know.

CREATE A BLOG
First of all we are going to create the blogs and explore all the possibilities they offer all together, so pay attention to the instructions in class. It’s very easy!

CHOOSE THE SUBJECT
Once the blog is created and you feel confident with it, you should decide what topic you are going to blog about. Maybe:
  •  First settlements and colonies
  •  Native american tribes
  •   War of independence
  •  Civil War
  •  Industrial revolution
  •  Fight for equality
  •  The roaring twenties and the great depression
  •  USA in WWII
  •  The cold war
SEARCH ON THE INTERNET FOR MATERIAL
Then, search on the Internet for reliable sources and select the photos, information, videos, etc. that you find more relevant and interesting for your blog.

Summarize the info and make sure that you understand what you are going to present. Ask your teachers whenever you need.

ADD THE MATERIALS THAT YOU HAVE CREATED TO YOUR BLOG
This will take more time but you must be patience. Little by little you will learn to add more things to your blog. Listen to your classmates and teacher’s tips and try to visit the “Resources” and “Notebook” pages regularly, as there will be explanations and resources that you may find interesting.

ATTENTION:
  • Do not just copy and paste! Try to summarize what you’ve found and give you own opinions.
  • Make sure that you understand what you are explaining. You may be ask questions.
  • Pay attention to the grammar and spelling of the words.
  • Try to make your blog attractive: include materials such as photos, videos, links…
